Basics

Information can be defined in several ways. If you ask a physicist or an engineer they will say that information is a quantity akin to mass, energy, or temperature and is always tied to physical matter. If you ask a statistician, you may hear that information is condensed data, with meaningful patterns extracted in the form of averages, standard deviations, dispersion, etc. In common terms of everyday life information can be defined as a content of data that reduces uncertainty. The Chemistry of Emotions

Emotions…Just a Chemical Reaction?

Emotions by their very nature are controversial. What causes them? Why do we have them? What purpose do they serve? From philosophers to scientists, no one seems to agree on any of these questions. One thing they do agree on, however, is the fact that emotions are linked definitively to a release of chemicals within the body.
Early pioneers in the field of emotive inquiry include, among others, Dr. William James of Harvard. Around the turn of the century, he theorized that there was nothing within the mind called emotion that precipitated bodily responses, but that rather it seemed the other way around. In other words, he concluded that there was a connection Read more…

Chakras: The Subtle Energy Centers of the Body

As practices of mindfulness become increasingly popular, so are individual experiences of the energetic or subtle body. The energy body is like a system of flowing water cascading through pools and riverbeds. Just like a river that pours into the ocean, the energetic rivers of the body find their source in major centers commonly known in many spiritual traditions as the chakras. Aligned in a central, ascending column from the base of the spine to the top of the head, the chakras pull in energy from the surrounding universe. They are the gateway to our spiritual roots and universal mind.

Yet, how do the chakras relate to the physical body, to the emotional body, and to your overall well-being? Read more…

It’s About Time

What is time, anyway?

Everybody talks about it, but does anyone know exactly what time is?  One of the more popular sources of definitions comes from Webster’s dictionary which states this about time:
“the period between two events or during which something exists, happens, or acts; measured or measurable interval.”

The American Heritage dictionary states:
“the system of those sequential relations that any event has to any other, as past, present, or future; indefinite and continuous duration regarded as that in which events succeed one another.”

The Free Dictionary has this to say about time: Read more…

Energy

When someone throws the word “energy” into the discussion, the topic of conversation could be any number of subjects. When it is applied to scientific disciplines and fields, it has an undeniable connection to life force. In the scientific realm, energy remains a mystery in the field of Physics. Within many religions, including Scientology, energy remains undefined, but has a clear role to play. Energy could be a word that we use to describe many different things, and with language, words like this often exist. Another possibility which is equally interesting is that we are talking about the same energy in each case. If this is true, then the seemingly opposing forces of science and religion might have a common link.

Time-Energy Continuum

I decided to put this post into the Fundamentals section, as it covers the three main elements of reality: Time, Energy and Information. The third one was excluded from the title, because the Information and Energy are combined together and are inseparable in their existence. You will see why later. Just like the three primary colors of light: red, green and blue make any color, so do these three – each contributes to a resultant manifestation of what you see, experience, and deal with day-to-day.

The energy is always tied to Read more…
